The social media platform known as Instagram recently updated and added a new feature that is all too familiar to some. Yesterday, the 3rd of August, an update was released that allows the users to “Share multiple photos and videos to your story. Bring them to life with text and drawing tools. They disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed” and “Watch stories from people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed.” This format sounds very similar to the other social media platform, Snapchat.

One of snapchats main features is allowing to post several photos and videos to “your story” with the option to add text, filters and drawing tools. Sounding familiar? Well Snapchats story feature also disappears after 24 hours after the last post to the story as well.  Snapchat updated their app in August 2013 that allowed users to use this feature. This has caused quite the stir for both companies as well as the users and promoted a social media civil war between them.

Most users of both platforms have been curious as to if the two companies have a partnership or if Instagram is  now the leading competitor against Snapchat. Seeing as however that it is estimated that Instagram have over 300 million users and Snapchat have just over 100 million, it will be interesting to see how these figures and apps develop over the next few weeks.
